Meet our CEO

In the beginning

Tonya Weathers, CEO of Weathers Capital, believes that abundance in life is not limited to the top one percent. She believes it is available to anyone who is willing to work hard, to be consistent, and to strive for excellence.

Tonya was raised in the small town of Avon Park, Florida. As a daughter and granddaughter of law enforcement, an army brat, one of 100+ grand/great-grandchildren, and a granddaughter of an English teacher, Tonya has always been in love with family, education, and striving for excellence.

This upbringing is what sparked the many ideas of living life in abundance. It was the tenacity of her mother, grandmothers, and aunties who taught her to be strong and poised. The friendship and honesty from her father, grandfather, and uncles who taught her to have humility and to be thoughtful. And, the countless of others who demanded she be better than those who came before her.

But, as you can imagine, even the lessons and love she received could not outweigh the limitations of living in a small town in the middle of Florida.

Hard work

She worked hard to earn top grades and college scholarships (falling in love with math along the way). She became a pageant queen, a top basketball rebounder, a cheerleader, and often stole the hearts of audiences during public speaking engagements and competitions with stories about black excellence. She did it all just to make it out of that small town in search of abundance.

In 2001, Tonya moved to Tampa to attend the University of South Florida where she received an A.S. in Computer Engineering, a B.A. in Multimedia Journalism, and a M.A. in Adult Education – eventually landing in the field of Instructional Design and Development with a specialty in IT systems, project management, and eLearning design.

Throughout the years, Tonya has worked with several Fortune 500 companies and non-profits including the top retail, telecommunications, healthcare, airlines, government, technology, education, insurance, and real estate companies in the country.

Real estate journey

On her journey, she met several people who mention (one way or another) that living in abundance could only be accomplished through financial freedom, and that real estate was one of the top ways to achieve it.

This intrigued her so much she started studying the ins-and-outs of financial literacy, including credit improvement and building, wealth planning, retirement planning, and real estate.

Since 2014, Tonya has learned the ins and outs of rental arbitrage, single-family fix and flips, house hacking, and multifamily syndications.

Her most recent success stories include profiting almost $100k in a single day after househacking a property in Dallas and cashing out close to $200k after flipping a home in Tampa. Not bad for a young, black women from a small town in Florida!

Now

The internal fire is now brighter than ever! Tonya recently pivoted her career and became a real estate investor and entrepreneur. Today, she’s combined her passion for real estate with her experience in financial literacy, IT systems, project management.

Her passion for real estate has become the driving force behind financial freedom, breaking generational curses, and living in abundance.

Tonya is grateful for her upbringing, as it created a well-rounded and high-achieving business woman that she is today. Her early life taught her to always strive for success and love family. Education enriched her world and the way she approaches real estate investing.
